This course will demonstrate the fundamental principles of home construction, with a particular focus on structural, roofing systems and design. The session covers a wide range of topics including: structural components, loads, home structure, soils, foundations, and structure failure. Also types of roofs, materials used in roofing, shingle installation, venting, flashing and ice damming.

The course includes a combination of instructor presentation, demonstration of procedural techniques and student participation in hands-on exercises.

Mould Remediation Lunch and Learn

This program introduces the science of mould and explores the potentially harmful effects of mould on building materials and occupants. Participants will learn how mould grows, how it spreads and what actions should be taken to remove mould in a safe and reasonable manner. Procedures such as containment, negative air and the proper use of personal protective equipment are also covered.

The course includes a combination of instructor presentation, demonstration of procedural techniques and student participation in hands-on exercises.
